When her parents die in the influenza epidemic, fifteen-year-old Cooper goes to live with her grandparents in El Paso, where she finds that her grandmother is remote and childlike and her grandfather is trafficking in stolen antiques and running guns to Pancho Villa and his Mexican revolutionaries. |
